Contemporary Linguistics was founded in 1961. It is a bimonthly journal of linguistics supervised by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and sponsored by the Institute of Linguistics, CASS. Contemporary Linguistics was formerly Linguistics Abroad (quarterly), which evolves from Yuyanxue Ziliao (Reference Materials for Linguistics, a sub-journal of Studies of the Chinese Language) and Yuyanxue Dongtai (Trends in Linguistics). Guided by Marxism-Leninism, Contemporary Linguistics publishes linguistics research articles on Chinese and other languages informed by theories and research methods of Contemporary Lingusitics, as well as review articles reporting on the latest developments and trends in the field of linguistics. Regular columns include "Research Articles", "Frontiers of Contemporary Linguistics", "Squibs and Discussions" and "Book Reviews".
